For my first blog posting, I thought I'd give you a sample of Just Breathe.
THE FRONT PORCH
Maryland
1976
I sat on the front porch steps and dropped my elbows onto my knees, my chin into my hands. I was bored. I could hear half the neighborhood playing in my backyard while I sat on the front porch alone.
I stared at the molecules. They kept me company when I felt alone. I concentrated on their movement. They were beautiful. Alive and playful. I smiled as I watched them dance in front of me.
I don’t know how long I sat there before I saw him. It was like he appeared from nowhere. He walked across my front yard with a torn book bag, blondish hair, and brown eyes. He had a thin, broken tree branch and was swinging it in the air like a sword. He saw me and looked away.
